Role 01 · Capital Markets Core

1. Equity Research Analyst (Sell-Side, Buy-Side & Global Research Centres)

Equity research is the foundational analytical role in capital markets. Every other desk—whether portfolio management, investment banking, or institutional sales—relies on the industry notes, financial models, and company reports produced by equity research analysts.

What the job actually involves day to day

  • Reading primary filings: Studying 300-page annual reports, quarterly results, investor presentations, earnings call transcripts, and DRHPs of listed companies within a designated sector (e.g., Pharmaceuticals, IT Services, Industrials, Chemicals, or BFSI).
  • Maintaining financial models: Updating three-statement Excel models (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow Statement) after every quarterly earnings release, tracking volume growth, realization, raw-material margins, and working-capital days.
  • Sector & channel tracking: Monitoring raw-material price indices, regulatory notifications, import/export data, and competitor capacity expansions.
  • Writing research reports: Authoring initiation reports, quarterly result updates, and sector thematic notes that clearly lay out business economics, valuation sensitivities, and key risks.

Where freshers get hired in India

Entry-level analysts typically start in one of three places: Sell-Side Institutional Brokerages (where you assist a senior lead analyst covering 10–15 stocks in a sector), Buy-Side Research Teams at Mutual Funds (AMCs), Portfolio Management Services (PMS), and Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs), or Global Capability Centres (GCCs) & Research KPOs in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Gurugram, Pune, Hyderabad, and Indore that support global institutional desks.
