Market Analysis Learning Lab

Harion Research is a financial education and research platform. The Research Scanner is a structured study environment for examining Indian equity universes across price action, volume behaviour, market structure and reported financial ratios.

01 / Purpose & Scope

About This Learning Lab

The Market Analysis Learning Lab is built around process over outcomes. It enables students, educators and market learners to observe how quantitative and fundamental lenses are applied across broad equity universes using historical, delayed End-of-Day datasets.

Every study module is designed to teach structured inquiry: how variables are defined, how multi-factor filters narrow a large universe of listed companies for deeper reading, and why learners must validate every observation independently against official exchange filings and annual reports.

02 / Capabilities

What the lab enables

  • Studying recurring price patterns and range behaviour in historical data.
  • Observing volume behaviour and participation relative to historical baselines.
  • Examining trends, consolidation ranges and broader market phases objectively.
  • Filtering large stock universes systematically using transparent, rule-based criteria.
  • Developing disciplined, research-driven thinking free from speculative noise.
  • Studying how financial statements and ratios are used to compare companies across sectors.
  • Exploring how profitability, growth, leverage and valuation measures are read together.
  • Combining fundamental and price-based lenses in one structured study.

The lab does not provide recommendations or direction.

Configured Scanner Study Filters

The Research Scanner currently includes the following fundamental and market-structure study metrics for comparing companies within a dataset:

Analysis Framework

The Research Scanner organizes market and financial statement observations into seven structured educational modules:

Analysis Framework What It Demonstrates Learning Objective
Price Action Case Study Historical price range expansion, contraction and key reference levels on delayed EOD charts. Understanding how price history reflects supply-demand equilibrium over time.
Volume Behaviour Study End-of-day volume relative to 20-day and 50-day historical averages alongside price movement. Studying how trading activity and participation change during trends and consolidations.
Market Structure Overview Broad-market breadth, moving-average alignment and sector-level participation across universes. Observing how individual stocks behave within trending, range-bound or volatile market regimes.
Multi-Factor Observation Simultaneous alignment of price structure, relative strength and historical volatility metrics. Learning how rules-based multi-variable screening reduces single-indicator bias.
Custom Price Movement Study User-defined historical percentage movements and range thresholds over custom lookback windows. Testing hypotheses on historical data without hindsight bias.
Financial Ratio Study How profitability (ROE, ROCE, OPM %), growth and leverage (Debt-to-Equity, Interest Coverage) ratios are compared across companies. Reading financial statements systematically and comparing operating models within a sector.
Valuation Measures Overview How valuation multiples (P/E, P/B, EV/EBITDA) are interpreted in the context of historical earnings and balance-sheet structure. Understanding valuation logic and why multiples differ across industries and cycles.

Fundamental data: Reported corporate filings and delayed End-of-Day (EOD) exchange data, updated daily after market close.

Fundamental data comes from reported financials and can be delayed, restated or contain errors. Verify against company filings.

Illustrative output

Outputs generated inside the Research Scanner display historical EOD price/volume metrics alongside reported financial statement ratios so learners can shortlist companies for deeper annual-report reading.

06 / Study Guidelines

Using the Lab

  • Approach outputs as case-study observations: Every table or filtered list is a starting point for reading primary filings, never a signal or conclusion.
  • Compare within sector context: A Debt-to-Equity ratio or P/E multiple has different meaning in capital-heavy utilities versus asset-light software services.
  • Check multi-year consistency: Single-period ratios can be distorted by one-off accounting items; verify 3-year and 5-year trends in the company's annual report.
  • Understand data lag: All scanner outputs reflect delayed End-of-Day market data and historical quarterly/annual filings.
07 / Audience

Who it's for

  • Students of finance, commerce, economics and management studying Indian capital markets.
  • Participants in the Harion Equity Research Internship Program conducting company and sector case studies.
  • CFA, CA and NISM certification candidates applying classroom concepts to historical market datasets.
  • Self-directed learners who prefer rule-based data observation over market commentary.
08 / Further Learning

Turn scanner observations into a complete research report

In the Harion Equity Research Internship Program, you learn how to take a shortlisted company from the Research Scanner, spread its financial statements, build a valuation model and write a mentor-reviewed research report.
